Highlights from Adventure Week

Last week, the boys and I had adventure week. We tried to go on some kind of adventure each day. Most days is was a short walk on a park trail. The boys loved seeing all of the different things that are now blooming and watching the ducklings and goslings swimming.

Bryce thought the cotton "snow" was great. It was fun to try to catch the cotton that was falling.

Matthew is 3!

On Saturday, May 8th, Matthew Scott turned 3 years old. What a precious child he is! Oh, and it is a really good thing he is cute because he loves to hear is own voice and is always making noise.

He started his day helping me make his pancakes. Cooking for Matthew is an interesting challenge but he loves to help and is so willing to at least try the creations I come up with. He is also very content eating the same thing day after day which is a great quality that he has.

Matthew had a fun day of petting sheep, exploring a fire truck, a police car and playing in the backyard. Overall, a great day for a 3 year old little boy.

Happy Birthday Matthew! Thank you for brining so much joy into our house. Your laughter is infectious and your smile is pure sunshine. You can and will do anything and everything you ever dream of. I love you. Mommy

Matthew's Appointment at Mayo

Yesterday, was the day. Matthew went to Mayo for a second opinion on all of his food issues. We saw a wonderful Dr. and she spent lots of time with me understanding his history and explaining where she thinks we need to go and why. I was very impressed with her knowledge. Our GI, here in the cities is doing the right things and looking at the right things but has not been very helpful in moving forward. We now have a PLAN. That is a huge blessing to me.

So where do we go from here. Well, we know that Matthew has reacted to a many different foods in the past so we will avoid those foods for the foreseable future. They are milk, eggs, wheat, soy, tomato, apple, strawberries, and oats. At this point he is safely eating rice, bananna, brocolli, potatoe, pork and sunflower oil. Every seven days we can add in one new ingredient to his diet. This week he gets to trial carrots. As long as he is tolerating his new food we will continue to move forward. We are going to try to add 4 new vegtables (not sure we can find 4 that we will eat but we will try), 1 new protien source (chicken or turkey), 1 new grain (quinoa) and then we will try to add some more fruit. We will most likely trial tapioca and some seasonings along the way to make cooking easier. His GI at Mayo said to expect to be trialing foods for at least one year most likely more. This will be a long process but in the end we will know which foods are safe for Matthew to eat. Way, way down the road I hope to have enough foods that we can safely talk about removing his formula but for now and the foreseable future, he needs to drink his formula to make sure that he is getting proper nutrition. I am so thankful that there is a formula for him to drink that is safe for him.

Nature Study - Tuesday May 4

Nature Study seems so hard to do. You know go outside and look at what is around us! I typically feel that I have to have the answers or know what we are going to see. Well today, I gave up and we went on a nature walk. Did we find things that were exciting? Yes, to the boys we did. Our walk start more as a running race.

Then they start walking. Even boys can only run so far. We spotted many birds, different types of trees, dandelions and even a few dragon flys. Here is Matthew proudly blowing the seeds of a dandelion.

At the end of the path we found a playgound. The boys thought this was a good place to take a play break. We didn't stay for long because the slides were all wet. Hopefully next time we can play longer. On our way back along the same path, the boys were now walking and looking all around. They were excited to find many, many ants working and all of thier holes.

Overall, it was a great walk. Now, we just need to keep doing this and I think the boys will discover many other exciting things out in Nature.
